Spring has sprung. This spring equinox has extra fire power because mental Mercury and heart-stirring Venus are both already in feisty Aries, and retrograde, which started the spring rebellion early, and adds fuel to the fire. Although both Mercury and Venus soon retrograde back into Pisces, Neptune heads into Aries on March 31, and Neptune last entered Aries on the first day of the American Civil War in 1861. Saturn enters Aries in late May. Aries demands action, not necessarily war; it encourages us to start over and energize a new life. It speaks of births, but births can be messy. We need to aim this Aries energy wisely, as its motto can be “Ready, Fire, Aim.”

This dangerous impatience amps up with both Venus and Mercury retrograde in Aries for the next few weeks, a pattern which can leave us feeling like we’re gunning the car in reverse. It can also bring up some tricky weather patterns and transportation problems, which have been with us since Mercury entered its shadow early this month. Watch for fires, electrical fires, friction, storms, and sudden lapses of judgment. Don’t drive when truly ticked off; exercise or do physical work instead and get that tension out of the body.

This blazing retrograde motion can also throw us back to another time, to a maudlin idealization of the past or the dangers of outdated political climes. If we get either hot under the collar, or wildly enthusiastic, let’s take a moment to make sure we understand the situation and actually hear what was intended. Expect strong feelings and rebellious tendencies, which can revive us even if they provoke the Aries shadow, willpower that wants to dominate and be the only one with a hand on the wheel. We can certainly see that dynamic happening in politics, but it can also erupt in interpersonal dynamics.

Learn from the past but stay present to the moment. Reconnect with old friends. Reminisce, and heal what can be healed from the past. Look for lost items. Focus on the best memories, when things worked, and bring those skills forward.

Think how powerful this rebellion could be if we can turn towards a common goal, rebel against the inevitability of climate change and war and take on a challenge together. In relationship terms, right now a common project can redirect the heat to work for us, not push between us.

We can also use this retrograde motion in a softer, more personal way, go back and reconnect with old friends, with people whose passions and interests are the same. Reminisce, and heal what can be healed from the past. Remember one’s own personal history. Focus on the best memories, when things worked, and bring those skills forward.

Friday begins under an impatient, funny Sagittarius Moon, great for making spontaneous plans but details can sift through our fingers. The Moon in Capricorn over the weekend is competent and determined, we can get things done but can feel pushy: watch for control issues but take this opportunity to learn and organize.

An Aquarius Moon early next week helps us organize interpersonal affairs, but the conversation will tend to be about world events: it will be harder to get people to talk about their own personal feelings. We could use some emotional version of reading glasses. Make sure to consciously check in on the people nearest, make sure toes are not being stepped on and a real personal need is not being ignored while we deal with world events.

Friday, March 21: The mood is outspoken, energized, and direct, potentially with a twinkle in our eye if we can keep our sense of humor open. Just make sure to have a full picture before running off in an odd direction. It can be a challenge to stay on track or to multitask successfully, though circumstances may call for us to do so. Keep notes and don’t bother with anything unimportant. Tonight, we drop more into our hearts -longing for compassion, caring, connection- as Venus sextiles Pluto. Be real.

Moon square Saturn 12:23 PM, Venus sextile Pluto 3:31 PM.

Saturday, March 22: The Moon enters competent Capricorn and helps us stay organized but can add a competitive, serious edge. A beautiful Venus-Sun conjunction in Aries adds extra power to our feelings of all types, particularly collaboration, passion, and rebellion. Learn together with others, think about the next steps. Look for the ending of one emotional cycle and the beginning of a new one. Let the evening be heartfelt.

Moon square Neptune 12:52 AM, Moon enters Capricorn 1:28 AM, Moon square Sun 5:29 AM, Moon square Venus 7:10 AM, Moon square Mercury 1:12 PM, Venus conjunct the Sun 7:07 PM.

Sunday, March 23: Notice a world-weariness, a bittersweet longing for a better time; for medicine, engage in meaningful connections to people, to spirit, to the natural world as the Sun sextiles Pluto. This philosophic perspective sharpens later on as the Moon opposes Mars. We can get defensive and edgy and homesick for an existential home that has never existed. A fresh decisiveness, with potential irrational irritation, spins in towards dinnertime; keep the heart open and a five-second lead on comments. Later in the evening we could bring in more wisdom and see a way through a conundrum as the Moon sextiles Saturn and trines Uranus.

Sun sextile Pluto 1:31 PM, Moon opposed Mars 5:22 PM, Moon sextile Saturn 9:41 PM, Moon trine Uranus 11:17 PM.

Monday, March 24: Speak thoughtfully and listen carefully to what other people reveal as the Aries Sun conjuncts Mercury; we won’t naturally have a filter and can say things we regret. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t true. Ask if it needs to be said this very minute; timing and pacing can change everything. Before we get our horses going in any one direction, let’s think through the outcomes. Under this collective-thinking Aquarius Moon, engage in a conversation about the direction that our community and our country is heading.

Moon sextile Neptune 9:00 AM, Moon enters Aquarius 9:24 AM, Moon sextile Venus 12:14 PM, Sun conjunct Mercury 1:48 PM, Moon conjunct Pluto 3:33 PM, Moon sextile Mercury 5:05 PM, Moon sextile the Sun 5:35 PM.

Tuesday, March 25: Make progress as the Moon trines optimistic Jupiter while thoughtful Mercury sextiles Pluto. We can find missing objects, do good research, or share some important revelation from the past which makes the present more transparent. People don’t want to get too cozy, as there’s need for fierce independence and our histamines are up, but we can have a great conversation. Look under rocks, ask good questions, and look for a deeper answer.

Moon trine Jupiter 12 PM, Mercury sextile Pluto 4:02 PM.

Wednesday, March 26: Deal with practical logistics in the morning, check for changes in plans or circumstances as the Moon squares erratic Uranus. Soften into the heart this afternoon as the Moon enters sensitive Pisces. If some tension or minor accident hits on old physical or emotional scars as Mars squares Chiron, go gently and use it as a healing opportunity.

Moon square Uranus 4:15 AM, Moon enters Pisces 1:31 PM, Mars square Chiron 2:13 PM.

Thursday, March 27: Our hearts can be a soft swamp as Venus retrogrades back into Pisces and conjuncts Neptune. Notice a strong escapist urge, but we don’t have to go far to find a safe place in the heart. Step back from gritty reality, daydream into a better world, and give the nervous system a break. Imagine where you’d like to be in 10 years, use that intuitive imagination consciously, just don’t do so while driving or handling heavy machinery. Stay in the present moment, not lost in the best- or worst-case scenarios, with all relationship issues.

Venus retrogrades into Pisces 2:40 AM, Venus conjuncts Neptune 7:13 AM, Moon square Jupiter 2:55 PM.
