This year the planets continue to sketch out the best and worst of times. Take every delicious moment to heart, take it in, and store it up against the difficult times.
Every planet, aspect, and pattern in astrology has 180° of expression; we will live out these symbolic patterns, but it’s always up to us how we roll with it. For example, Saturn conjuncts Neptune in Aries both now and again next spring. Neptune can idealize, confuse, inspire, add spirit and intuition or dissolve, it can speak of oil, water, things that flow. Saturn symbolizes leadership, authority, security, structures, rocks, systems, borders, containers, discipline, practicalities, restrictions, foundations, and maturity. Aries paints these attributes with a fiery approach, re-awakening, spontaneity, aggression, militarization, rebellion, heroism, and a chance to start over.
Combine one word from column A, B, and C, and you get the range of possibilities of this year. Military authority or patriarchal leadership can be idealized, or rebellion organizes around new ideals. Boundaries can be dissolved, and so can our security. Our intuition can strengthen and grow muscular; our spirituality can form new structures and make practical moves integrated with our ideals. We can bring personal authority back. Shifting earth can bring fires. We could be restricted by our delusions or wake up and stand by our ideals. Heroes will come in strange forms.
Choose carefully which patterns to further. Seek fairness and beauty and practice compassion in the face of the world’s difficulties. Give form to dreams and don’t let other people set the boundaries and define our reality.
For a historic look back at the Saturn-Neptune conjunction. Saturn and Neptune conjunct in Capricorn in the spring and fall of 1989. The Berlin Wall came tumbling down, that border dissolved. The Exxon Valdez, a container carrying oil on water, broke open on a rock, and polluted the sea. Ideological authority was challenged in Tienman Square, and a major earthquake shook the California Bay area, all powerful examples of that Saturn-Neptune working together.
Along with these deeper, era-changing aspects and an agitating flaring Sun, we have pleasant and entertaining summer fare which can add that richness, the layers of joy which help us stay in there to do the work and steer our boat. This weekend begins under a drama-loving Leo Moon, most of us will just love telling our stories, but some dramatic events will occur and elicit a melodramatic reaction. Keep it simple and in proportion.
On Sunday, the Moon enters thoughtful, potentially over-thinking, Virgo, where it tends to make us worry, just as Mercury opposes Pluto, an aspect which resonates all week. This Mercury in Leo opposed Pluto helps us tell our story, but can bring our attention to hard times, to urgent, mortal issues, transformation, and the global power dynamics. We can be deeply aware of a loss, the potential of loss, or feel a need to make a clear decision to turn down one road and not another. It’s a passing transit but can help make us aware of problems and consequences, but let’s not believe that what we see is the whole picture.
On Tuesday, July 1, the Moon enters more egalitarian, balancing Libra -but it immediately opposes Saturn and Neptune: we may long for pleasant comfort but have to deal with some difficult realities, whether that’s in the headlines or in our household. It can help to seek beauty and pull out the art or gardening supplies and find solace in our love in the face of the world’s difficulties.
Friday, June 27: Shyness and extroversion; expect mixed feelings about being seen. The Sun and Jupiter in home-loving Cancer, with Mars in thoughtful Virgo, call for privacy- while Mercury conjuncts the Moon in extroverted Leo cranks up our need to feel seen, centered, and understood. Take turns. That Mercury-Moon conjunction opposes Pluto and trines Saturn and Neptune and fuels our love of connection, storytelling, and adventure, but also adds fuel to the fire of the big dramas of our time. Tonight is thoughtful, let’s consider carefully what we say; be serious but not heavy-handed. Learn something.
Moon enters Cancer at 12:05 AM, Moon conjuncts Mercury 1:12 AM, Moon trine Saturn 3:04 AM, Moon trine Neptune 3:49 AM, Moon opposed Pluto 5:38 AM, Mercury trine Saturn 9:52 PM.
Saturday, June 28: Consciously step into an alternate reality- watch cartoons, write a novel, play with kids in an imaginary world. Imagine this world healthy, whole, and beautiful as Mercury trines dreamy Neptune. Just remember that politicians and people with a strong ideological bent may be speaking from an alternate reality; what people say today may express their hopes and fears but please check all facts before repeating. Work through a moment of insecurity around dinnertime; respect boundaries but reach out to the lonely or reserved as the Leo Moon squares Venus in Taurus.
Mercury trine Neptune 5:57 AM, Moon square Venus 6:22 PM.
Sunday, June 29: For most people, this moody, thoughtful day will be good to clean up, get organized, and process free-floating layers of emotion. Just choose carefully where the mind latches on, as it is easy to obsess on the myriad world woes as Mercury opposes Pluto under a busy, anxiety-producing Virgo Moon. There may be a reckoning, consequences coming due, but we won’t see where these scenarios are going just yet. Don’t catastrophize, do stay in the moment. Don’t let people get controlling when they get anxious, either bow out or call them on it and focus on the source of worry. Utilize carefully a potentially cranky but efficient moment around dinnertime, be patient and deal with a problem rather than get difficult as the Moon conjuncts Mars.
Mercury opposed Pluto 1:57 AM, Moon square Uranus 5:02 AM, Moon enters Virgo 5:43 AM, Moon sextile Jupiter 2:12 PM, Moon conjunct Mars 7:13 PM, Moon sextile Sun 9:54 PM.
Monday, June 30: On this potentially cranky day- multi-task, catch up with one another, listen to the stories of recent journeys. Our souls have been busy and need to share those internal processes as Mercury semi-sextiles Jupiter. Tend to administrative and organizational logistics, hit the reset button for the coming week. Eat gentle food. People may act prickly, don’t take it personally.
Mercury semi-sextile Jupiter 10:15 AM.
Tuesday July 1: Morning could bring a healing possibility, old pains can be triggered or our hearts tweaked, some teaching memory from the past could be invoked to give us the wisdom we need at this moment as Venus semi-sextiles Chiron. Don’t focus on old soreness, focus instead on what helped, what worked last time; figure out how to adapt that wisdom and apply it here. Afternoon brings a different agenda as the Moon enters sociable Libra and opposes Saturn and Neptune, then trines Pluto. Friendly depths, complicated messages; bond together to handle problems close and far.
Moon trine Venus 8:42 AM, Venus semi-sextile Chiron 11:32 AM, Moon trine Uranus 2:46 PM, Moon enters Libra 3:16 PM, Moon opposed Saturn 6:53 PM, Moon opposed Neptune 7:34 PM, Moon trine Pluto 9:26 PM.
Wednesday, July 2: We’re preparing for a big change of heart or of scene as Venus approaches a conjunction with Uranus in a few days, but we can feel it brewing now, enhanced as the Moon in Venus-ruled Libra squares Jupiter and the Sun in Cancer. Collaborate, talk about unfolding events, share anticipation and support. Work together around any family worries. Take a moment to uncover and appreciate commonality. Engage any opportunity for collaboration or softening of differences, see that potential and open to it.
Moon square Jupiter 1:24 AM, Moon sextile Mercury 4:29 AM, Moon square Sun 1:29 PM.
Thursday, July 3: It’s a disjointed day, we could have trouble maintaining focus or bringing things to conclusion. But it can be a good day to heal some recent riff and help our dear ones feel like we are on their side, we can love even if we disagree. Explore new territory or new ways of being together, learn a new skill as the Moon in Libra quincunx Venus and Uranus. If that truly is not possible, it may be time to make a clean, clear break. Make subtle improvements, make it fun and get the chore done. Just prioritize people first. We may be dealing with consequences in the big political picture and need to feel it can be different at home. Fireworks help.
Moon opposed Chiron 9:10 PM.
